OPTIMISTS’ CLUB.
The weekly luncheon of the Optimists’ Club was held yesterday, Mr G. Pratt presiding. The visitors were Messrs L. Mangham, AY. B. Cameron, and 11. McAffer. The club “Three minute speaker” was Mr C. Ellingham, who spoke on the advance of aerial warfare. He quoted figures which were very illuminating—England entered the last war with only 4G planes and finished with 1785. -The guest speaker was Mr R. Hayward, who spoke on the motion picture industry in Now Zealand during the last 20 years. He recounted many humorous incidents concerning tho production of pictures which gave an idea of the difficulties the industry has faced. The story of an early production, the . two reel comedy “The Bloke from Freeman’s Bay.” was well told to an appreciative audience. The speaker completed his talk with the story behind the scenes of a recent production.
A similar address was given bv Mr Hayward to the Manawatu Amateur Cine Society.
