ARMY RESTIVE.
FAITH IN DE GAULLE’S CAUSE.
LONDON. Sept. G,
Further evidence of the growing spirit of resistance in France—strikingly exemplified by the many pilots flying to Gibraltar—is provided by news of growing restiveness among young officers of the French Army, who do not agree that all is lost. -
The success of the “Free France” movement in Africa has increased the officers’ boldness as well as their numbers to such an extent that now secret groups are being formed in increasing numbers with the watchword, “Jusqu’au bout!” (“Unto the end.”) The army officers, who risk their lives by belonging to the groups, are prepared to do the utmost possible harm to the enemy till they can escape to join General de Gaulle in London. The Germans are becoming increasingly suspicious, and are taking precautions to prevent military information from being carried to Britain. The increased, faith in General de Gaulle’s “Free France” movement among members of the French forces is believed to be the cause of a German threat to treat as pirates French warships operating under General de Gaulle’s orders.
