ATTACK RESUMED.
FOURTH SUCCESSIVE NIGHT. INDISCRIMINATE BOMBING. (From DaventryJ • For the fourth successive night the Germans are bombing London. The attack began soon alter the fall of darkness, and bombs are dropping incessantly, though at first the attack was not so severe. At midnight it was in full swing, and London’s defences were fully in action. The sound of heavy reverberations and the whistle of bombs were heard, and the glow of fifes was visible in one or two quarters. The sirens sounded five times in the London area on Tuesday. Up to midnight no communique had been issued, and there had been no announcement of the casualties.
“The last shadow of military excuse for the raids has disappeared,” stated a commentator. 'Hie enemy pianes were flying too liigu ror precise oomt>ing, and workers cottages, maternity homes, hospitals, museums, and cinemas were among tlie buildings hit. lii addition, delay ed-action homos had killed many. Tlie majority ol tlie casualties were civilians, many being women and children. “V\e knew Hitler had pulled up by the roots truth and justice from the German soil, but not till now did we realise how thoroughly he did his work,” remarked tne commentator. “The Nazi airmen—young barbarians armed with deadly weapons oi modern science—worse than any savages ;ar£ the fruits of the Nazi system. Against this we can only oppose the free spirit of an Empire kindled in peace.” The German terrorism had not struck terror in tile British nation, and never would. The people were only filled with determination to fight on to success.
