PERSONAL.

Mr Neville Chamberlain (Lord President of the Council) has returned to his duties after his recent illness, states a London cablegram.

In recognition of his work for the success of the National Eucharistic Congress, held in Wellington in February, Rev. Dr A. J. Mcßae has had bestowed upon him by the Holy See the title of Monsignor.

At tire meeting of the Kairanga County Council yesterday Cr J. Batclielar was appointed to attend, with the chairman (Cr W. R. Ropcroft), the meeting of local bodies to be held in Palmerston North on Thursday to be addressed by the Minister of National Service (Hon. R. Semple) on the Emergency Reserve Corps. Professor Lambeth Rogers, brother of Mrs G. M. McCaskill, of Palmerston North, who occupied the chair of surgery at Cardiff University before the war, has been appointed brain surgeon at a naval hospital near Bristol, with the rank of Surgeon-Captain, R.N.V.R. Towards the end of the last war lie was a probationer surgeon on a minesweeper and witnessed the capitulation of the German fleet.

Regret at the departure for Stratford, shortly, of Mr T. Madgwick, a life member of the club, was expressed by Mr J_. O’Sullivan, the president, at the annual dinner of St, Patrick’s Rugbv Football Club, last evening. Mr O’Sullivan stated that Mr Madgwick bad been a member since the inception of the club in 1926 and had played in the senior team since 1933. The club could ill afford to lose him. but wished him every success. Mr Madgwick was presented with a chiming clock.

Pilot-Officer R. G. Hall, of Wellington,: who has been reported missing on air operations, is a member of the Ma.anui Surf and Life-Saving Club and was a member of the team which won the junior six-man rescue and resuscitation championships of New Zealand, the 'Wellington province, and the west Coast (North Island) in the 1938-39 season. As a member of the University Swimming Club lie was first home in the Pock Shield harbour rare, at Wellington, in February 1939 He is n member 0 f the Wellington College Old Boys’ Rugby Football Club
