CHANNEL SHELLING.

EXCHANGE OP SALVOES. (Rec. 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 9. German long-range batteries resumed the shelling of the Dover area early this morning and the British guns immediately retaliated, returning salvo for salvo.

The enemy again shelled Dover in the evening, and at dusk the It.A.F. hammered the German gun emplacements on the French coast. The concussion of bombs falling on gun positions shook the ground on the British side of the Channel. It was one of the most violent raids' against Germanheld Channel ports.

Five were killed in the shelling of Dover.
