PATRIOTIC ENDEAVOUR.
LADY GALWAY GUILD. Alcmbers of the Lady Galway Guild committee met at their workroom in Kingsway Buildings, yesterday after- j noon, Mrs G. C. Petersen being in the chair. Associated with her were ATesdaincs A. E. Alansford and S. A. Orr (secretary). m The general secretary of the Lady Galway Guild (Air G. G. Stewart) wrote acknowledging the receipt of five cases of goods and complimenting the mem-1 hers on the standard of the garments. | Ho also forwarded a copy of the reply to an inquiry from the United Guild as to whether material was available from the postmen’s drive. ATr Stewart mentioned that if sufficient material was not available in Palmerston North there was plenty in Wellington. Airs Petersen said that a letter had been drawn up by Airs Alansford, Airs Orr and herself, stating that material would be available to the United Guild if application was made, but that they ! considered the garments should be re-, turned to the Alanawatu Lady Galway Guild and not forwarded direct to Wellington. The letter was approved] by the committee. | The town clerk (Air J. R. Hardie) wrote informing the members that all money collected bad to be banded in to the Patriotic Council, from which advances would be made for incidental expenses, but not for the purchase of new materials. In reply to an inquiry, Airs Alansford explained that £ls had been received through the postmen’s drive and extra money had been received by the sale of rags. Since the Lady Galway Guild had come under the direction of the Patriotic Council an imprest account had been created for it. Airs Peterson reported that it bad been decided by the Patriotic Committee that application must be made for all expenditure over £l. I Airs Petersen also reported that more material had been brought to the work- I room from the Showgrounds depot and ! it was hoped to have "all the material, moved next week. The parcels were still found to contain very good garments. An application had been received from ' Madame Cowan to open the room at night as she and her staff were willing to come and work two nights a week if necessary. Airs Alansford said that there were probably other business girls who would like to come in the evenings. It was decided to open the room one night a week for the present. j Airs Petersen stated that eight cases 1 had been forwarded, containing 1176 articles, mainly winter clothing, which; was considered to be the most urgently | needed The secretary was asked to convey i the thanks of the guild to the AVhaka- , rongo Women’s Institute, for two boxes of clothing; Alanawatu patriotic knitting and hussif branch, 13 quilts;' “N.W.,” 3s; A[r C. T. Callis. Airs Ross and the Boy Scouts, cleaning and sorting shoes; Ideal Dry Cleaners,] Coo-ce Dry Cleaning Co.. Zmiith Clean-! ors. Nielsen’s Dyers and Cleaners, for cleaning clothes free.
