PETROL RESTRICTIONS.
NONE IN INDIA, CANADA, OR
SOUTH AFRICA
Further interesting light was thrown on the petrol restrictions at the annual meeting of the Manawatu Petrol Resellers’ Association held yesterday evening. . •'
In a discussion of the comparative current basic petrol a.llowances as recently quoted in the ’ Press, ranging from 10 to 23 gallons per month in Australia, from 4 to 10 gallons per month in Great Britain, and from' 4 to only 8 gallons per month in New Zealand, it was stated that there were no petrol restrictions whatever. current in India, Canada, or South Africa. Considering the equal interest and responsibility which these other three Dominions have in the conservation of dollar-stcrling exchange, it was felt that some other explanation was needed as to why the Government should have cut New Zealand below the economic breadline, and below the allowance cui rent in Great Britain itself with its thirty times denser population and corresponding transport facilities.
