HOROWHENUA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI, June 10. The Prime Minister (Hon. P. Fraser) and Mrs Fraser were among the visitors to Packakariki on Saturday. Mr Robert Nicholls, a well-known Otaki native, passed away at the Palmerston North Hospital on Saturday. The deceased, who was aged 70 yearn, was born in Hawke’s Bay, and was in his youth a very fine athlete. The late Mr Nicholls, who was educated at GreenmeadowS, is survived by a grown-up family, the sohs being Messrs Wi, David, Mana j and Rangi, and the daughters Mrs Mcniheri (Jerusalem, Wanganui) and Mrs Gotty (Tokorangi, HalcOmhe). In the Magistrate’s Court fines of ss, costs 10s, were imposed on Henry Taratoa and William Waka for taking toherons from the Otaki beach. The Magistrate remarked that in future more substantial penalties would be inflicted. For shooting native game, Tila Murray and Hector Neville were cadi .fined £5, and costs.
