(From Our Own Correspondent.) ’ ASHHURST, June 10. On Saturday members of the Defence Rifle Club fired the annual service championship and service shoot for Mr J. Scarle’s trophy. The weather was fine.,The service championship (Mcvvett Cup) was won by M. Hausmann, who also won Air j. B. Soarle’s trophy for the best, aggregate in the standing and kneeling practices. Next, Saturday the shoot, for Airs W. G. Romlcy’s trophy for those who hn’-e not won a trophy during the season, will conclude the season’s trophy shoots. The monthly meeting of the Ashhurst School Committee was presided over by Mr E. A. Dnnstall and others present ,vorn Messrs J. B. Searle. IT. ITvndmnn. E. TunmV.iffe. R. A. -Tones, R. D. Davis, (secretary) and Mr It. N. Fjnlay (headmaster). An anology for absence was received for Mr J. A. McDonpll, and it was decided to forward him a letter of sympathy in his continued illness and cxnrnssi mg the wish that he will scon he restored .to good health again. The headmaster reported that there were 104 pupils on the roll. The dents’ clinic roll was still of high standard. The school was visited by Inspector Merrington. A viola strip had been added to the- garden borders and a vote of thanks was accorded Mr Pettigrew, who made a don-tion of nlants. Tt was decided to have the shrubbery dug and several shrubs renewed, also to cock co-operation from householders, where t'-ees were overhanging the school garden plot, foi the trees to be reduced i n sTe. The school show holiday, was fixed for Friday. Tt was decided to ask the Education Board for .authority to have building matters rectified. A competition was decided on. for the best boy and girl during the school year, whose manner, kindliness, and general behaviour are considered : by the teachers to be of an'outstanding nature.
