Of 20,000 women who volunteered for the land army, only 2000 could be equipped , and given suitable employment. The fifty young army nurses selected to go overseas with the Second Australian Imperial Force felt selfconscious about their appearance when they were entertained at dinner by the council of the Australian Trained Nurses’ Association in Sydney a short time ago. They had given away most of their civilian clothes and at that time uniforms were not available for everybody, tlie result being that the girls had to wear the best dresses thev could find. The uniform of Second A.I.F. nurses includes grey washing frocks, grey coats and skirts, and grey silk “mess” dresses. Trousseau Lingerie. Alost original and dainty and altogether enchanting is the new range of bridal sets just opened up at (he Scotch Wool and Hosiery Shop, the Square. The wife of the Soviet Premier and Foreign . Commissar, Madame Alolotov, who lias been Commissar of the fishing industry for some years, has been removed from her post and transferred to a new one. She is known in Russia as Paulina Zhemchishina and is the only woman in Russia with the rank of full Commissar. ■
