HEALTHY WEATHER.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —A healthy community and good Aveather are closely related. In so far as this city is concerned its comparative freedom from influenza and disease generally is on a par Avith its freedom from climatic extremes. Rain has been recorded locally as having fallen on every day this month to date, giving a total of approximately half an inch and, although just below normal, these frequent showers are tantalising to the man in the street and would be trying to his nerves Avere it not that he has become resigned to present Avar conditions. May I again urge your readers to think good health daily; think beneficial rains for every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and sunny weekends, Friday till Monday inclusive. These conditions may not be fully accomplished at a first attempt, yet it will provide improved security against undesirable conditions by. dealing with the rainstorm before it starts and thereby avoid the cause of devastating floods, etc. That which causes a disturbed state of mind is the forerunner of bad health and also bad weather. It is just as impossible for disease to enter our bodies until our disturbed thoughts provide a vacancy for it, as it is to add anything to a vessel of lvater 'without displacing its contents. The present is 'not the time to indulge in selfish, idle thoughts', or to expect sympathy for being delicate, or mentally or bodily afflicted. Most of our population are totally ineligible for overseas war service, but unless each person, old or young, is serving some useful purpose in life, he is just a burden on the community. All are potential helpers to win or lose the war. There is, as we have recently realised, no such thing as safe neutrality. We are either for or against. If traitors, the sooner Ave admit it the better it will be for our conscience\ and future comfort. As true citizens we must try to do our bit just a bit better. Most can do so without being fully extended. —I am, etc.. G. H. MASON. Palmerston North, 8/6/40.
