RED CROSS APPEAL.
£250,000 MARK PASSED. STRIKING SUCCESS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, June 9. , In a little more than four weeks since the start of the Sick, Wounded and Distress Fund Appeal the objective of £250,000 lias been reached. The latest returns to hand are; Auckland, £37,000; Wellington,' £58,390; Canterbury, £55,000; Otago, £50,000; Gisborne, £3000; Hawke’s -Bay, £22,200; Taranaki, £11,00.0; Marlborough, £2100; West Coast, £800; Palmerston North, £10,890; miscellaneous donations, £4000; making a total of more th.an £254,000. Although the exact figure is not yet available it is certain that' the collections through the Dunedin Red Cross appeal, which closed on Saturday night, will total over £50,000. It is announced that tho £SOOO cabled to the Joint Council of the Red Cross Society and the Order of St. John is to be paid to the French Red* Cross Society. An Otaki message says a Paddy’s market for patriotic purposes yesterday raised over £2CO. A branch of the Red Cross* .Society has been formed.
