EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD.’; JUNE 10, 1910. A drainage scheme which was to cost £31,000 was being considered in ,Masterton. The memorial figure, which was to •be placed above the grave of Mr R. J. Seddon, had been shipped from London. The earthquake, which had struck Italy, had not caused such immense damage as was at first thought. However many people were killed through old houses collapsing. A statue was to be erected in Launceston to the memory of King Edward. There were to be five candidates for the Auckland, East seat which, was rendered vacant by the death of Mr F. E. Baume. \
