TREMENDOUS SUM.

PURCHASES FROM AMERICA. - SUPPLIES FOR ALLIES. WASHINGTON, June 6. It is reported from a reliable Congressional source that fifty Naval Reserve bombers are being assembled at Buffalo (New York) to be transferred to the Allies. It is understood the ’planes will be turned over to the Curtis Coy., which will then sell them to Britain and France; also that President Roosevelt has approved the procedure. . The State Department is guarding against the admission of Fifth Columnists and has ordered that many classes of foreigners, including Canadians and Mexicans, who formerly did not need passports, must in future secure them. The Secretary of the Treasury (Mr 11. M. Mbrgenthau) has disclosed that the Allies are considering vast purchases of aircraft. An additional 1,200,000,000 dollars’ worth has already been bought. Meanwhile, simultaneously with the Ambassadors’ urgings, the demand to aid the Allies is becoming more vocal throughout the nation, Washington reporting evidence that, even in the isolationist West, public sentiment appears to be outstripping the amount of aid already provided.
