PROPOSED SHOW HOLIDAY.

VIEWS OF EMPLOYERS. A suggestion made by the Manawatu A. and ,P. Association to the Manawatu-Wairarapa Employers’ Association, that business firms should consider closing their premises on AVednesdav next in order to allow employees to attend the AVinter Show, was discussed by tho employers at their annual meeting, when it was decided to forward the following reply: “Whilst members were,, sympathetic to the request, it was considered that it would not be advisable to ask for a holiday immediately i olio wing, the Government’s decision to abandon the holiday usually observed on account of the King’s Birthday. The meeting considered that this could be the only decision in view of the urgent necessity to assist the war effort in every possible way. It was agreed that a similar request after the conclusion ,of .the war. should receive further consideration and that members would be asked to assist your association as far as possible by encouraging their staffs to attend- the Show. ‘With reference to your comment that a holiday is observed in Hawke’s Bay during the Hawke’s Bay Show, we would point out that if you refer to the various awards you will find that in that particular district a show holiday is observed in place of the Anniversary Dav, so that an extra holiday is not given for. the show.”
