GIRL GUIDES.
The Palmerston North Girl Guides Association met yesterday, Mrs G. A. Eliott (District Commissioner) presiding. Also present were Mesdames J. H. Whyte, A. Stewart, L. McNab, S. Cooper,\ J. Body, J. Kennedy, J. M. Roberts, H. F. Wilson and Miss Grant. Sympathy was expressed with Mrs C. Jensen, who is indisposed, the secretary being authorised to convev good wishes to her. Mrs Eliott -reported that the Guiders’ training week at Woodford House had been most successful. It was reported that Miss A. Gray was giving elementary instruction in first aid to the Rangers and it was hoped to. have the instruction continued. A donation of £1 Is from the Commissioner towards the funds was acknowledged. Congratulations had been sent to Mrs J. Coss, captain of St. Paul’s Company, who was recently married and the executive decided to send her a smajl gift. The badge secretary (Mrs Roberts) presented her report, and . Mrs McNab reported on a successful jumble sale for St. Paul’s Company funds. - r ' Mrs Eliott referred to the appeal being made to the Guides and Guiders of the world to contribute to the £20.000 fund towards providing two air ambulances and a motor boat, over £6 having already been sent in by the local Guides. Members made their contributions and the amount was sent forward to-dav. ft was reported that Guiders and Guides had gathered a very fine contribution of warm clothing, parents assisting in the making, which had been sent to headquarters to be forwarded for refugees. There had been about 50 garments. It was resolved to offer to take a turn at the women’s patriotic shop. Mrs Eliott is to attend the provincial half-yearly meeting in Wellington. .
