GERMANS INTERNED. SYDNEY, June 6. The State Cabinet has agreed to a proposal by the Public Service Board that employees in the professional, clerical, and general, divisions of the service should work half an hour longer each week-day and work three hours on Saturday mornings. A large number of aliens, mostly Germans, were interned after a series of raids carried out in Sydney and other centres of New South Wales early this morning. This action was taken by the State police working in co-operation with the military intelligence authorities to guard against German activities. A fair percentage were Germans who Were interned after the declaration of war and subsequently' released. There were many distressing scenes but all were treated with the utmost courtesy. Italian migrants are still arriving in Australia in hundreds, mostely in neutral ships. The migration authorities are unable to stop the influx but are keeping a close watch on them. About 14,000 “of the 27,000 Italians in Australia are naturalised.
