LADY GALWAY GUILD.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —I have been advised by the Patriotic Purposes Branch of the Department of Internal Affairs that a Lady Galway Patriotic Guild is in process of formation. The duties of this guild. Will be the provision of comforts lor refugees and those in necessitous circumstances in Great Britain because of the war. The classes of goods required are new or part-worn underwear and footwear of all descriptions and men’s and children’s clothing. Her Excellency will very shortly be making a public statement in regard to the formation of this guild. It is not intended by Her Excellency that the guild should take over the functions of bodies already organised for war work, but rather to use the services of those ladies throughout the Dominion who are so anxiously desiring to help in a voluntary capacity. The work of the guild will ill no way conflict with the work of the New Zealand Bed Cross Society. Under the International Bed Cross Convention the whole of the relief provided under the symbol of the Bed Cross is for the sick and wounded of the fighting forces, prisoners of war interned in enemy or neutral countries, and civilians injured’or sick as the result of hostile action. The convention does not cover relief of any kind to healthy members of the fighting forces or the civil population, neither does it cover normal sick population in civilian hospitals nor evacuated men, women and children. It will be seen therefore that there is now a definite and urgent need for assistance of this nature, and as soon as further particulars are received I shall consider by what means this work can best be carried out. Meanwhile, 'I make an appeal to the people of Feikling and district for the articles above enumerated and, knowing the willingness of Feilding people at all times to assist in a worthy cause, I am confident of a good response. Articles may be left at the Feilding Borough Council Chambers. Where they cannot be delivered, donors are asked to telephone number 3 and arrangements will be made to call for them.—l am, etc., T. L. SEDDON, Mayor.
