DAIRY AWARDS
NATIONAL SHOW. MANAAVATU SUCCESSES. “A pleasing feature of tile butter exhibits this year is the remarkable uniformity in the quality of the majority of the entries. The winning exhibits were difficult to separate, flavours showing a nice nutty aroma, and bodies all that could be desired. Special meiition could be made on entries in the class selected at random from February consignments to store lor export. The quality of the majority of these butters stood up exceedingly well to storage, and reflects credit on all those concerned in both the manufacture and in the supply of the raw material.”
The foregoing comment is made by the officers of the Dairy Division of the Department of Agriculture who judged the butter entries in the National Dairv Show of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. CHEESE AWARDS. CHAMPIONSHIP TO PAIIIATUA. Commenting on the eben.se exhibits the nidges stated: —The cheese on exhibition is, with a few exceptions, lip to the standard of other years. Although the flavour was Sound in the majority of eases, u few cheeses showed slight bitterness. There is. however, a tendency towards we ale body, a fault which should be guarded against. At the same time there is no evidence of harshness, which is oven a greater fault. A number of entries show slightly more acid development, than is' desirable. the body lacking the smoothness which is characteristic of a good cheese. The finish, on the wholq. is neat and attractive, though in some there was room for improvement in (his direction. The awards arc: CHEESE CHAMPIONSHIP QF NEW ZEALAND.
