PARCELS COMMITTEE. The branch of tlie Women’s Patriotic 1 Committee which deals with the despatching of parcels to soldiers met in the Mayor’s room at the City Council Chambers last evening. Mrs S. G. Northey (convener) was voted to the chair, and Mrs L. Wood was appointed minute secretary. The Mayoress (Mrs A. E. Mansford), who is chairman of the Manawatu AVomen’s Patriotic Committee, explained the purpose of the committee, and Mrs J. Pegden (hon. secretary) was also in attendance.

An executive committee comprising Mesdames IT. B. Free, R. A. Fuller, S. Orr, H. Brown, J. L. Davies, and W. Cook was elected. Mrs Mansford explained the working of the patriotic finances and it was agreed to have special efforts immediately to raise money for the parcels. There was an immediate response to the appeal for helpers to conduct the competition. A donation of £3 6s, the result of a card evening held by the West End Progressive Association, was received through Mr H. Bovis, the secretary being asked to convey the thanks of tho committee. It was pointed out that parcels specially addressed could not be accepted at the shoo, and it was resolved to post several inadvertently left there. Mrs Hansford’s offer of her home for an evenin'* gathering to raise funds was gratefully accepted and various forms of entertainment were suggested. Members were notified that thev would be called together in teams when the time drew near for packing parcels, Afrs Northey intimating that meantime efforts bv various groups could bo made privately for raising funds.
