MITTENS FOR THE TROOPS.
A correspondent writes : —I read in your paper a night or two ago of the request of the boys now in camp for mittens to wear in their cold morning practices. Now, it is not necessary that the mittens be flash in colour. I suggest using the tops of men’s socks, the rib top to be for tlie wrists. Cut off the worn foot, leaving a length long enough to reach the finger joint and hem round to prevent fraying back. I would put on the thumb part by sewing it the right shape from the top, using only good quality socks. Men wear out tlie foot part mostly—they are not troubled with ladders. We could go on knitting, if needed, until the warmer weather comes. ’ Hoping this may he useful, if approved by the authorities and. others in charge. I write this for what it is worth, speedy work is needed, and “waste not want not.”
