Mr 1 and Mrs It. J. Pickwell, ofj Blenheim, are visitors to Palmerston North for the Gilray-Niccol wedding. Mrs C- A. Gaitt, of Rongopai Street, has returned home after paying a short visit to Mrs H. A. Tiarks, of Remuera, Auckland.
Mr and Mrs Warren Mud ford have returned to Ldngburn after a -two weeks’ holiday trip to Auckland, le Puke, Rotorua and Taupo. Mr and Mrs G. Kenning (formerly Miss Joan Rowntree) have returned from their wedding trip and, after visiting Palmerston North, leit yesterday for their new homo in \Y el lington. "
Mrs R. ITarkcr and Mrs E. F. Bee gave a bridge party yesterday afternoon, at 24 Langston Avenue, in aid of the Sick and Wounded Appeal. There were 'eight tables occupied and the sum of £2 14s was raised.
The Mayoress (Mrs A. E. Mansford), with all the other t Mayoresses and wives of county chairmen, has received an invitation to attend a meeting at Government House, Wellington, on June 19,- in connection with the formation of the Lady Galway Patriotic Guild.
Members and friends of the Palmerston North Y.W.C.A. were entertained at the residence of president, Mrs C.. A. Small, on Tuesday evening, to a pianoforte recital by Mr Paul Schramm, who played a programme culled front the works of famous composers.
Mrs Jane “Vile, of Fcatherston, who celebrated her ninetieth birthday recently, was born' in Essex, England, and her parents, the late Mr and Mrs R. Bright, brought her to New Zealand when she was five years old. She lived in Greytown till 1867, when she was married to" the late Josiah Vile. Mrs Vile had 12 children, eight of whom are living, and she has 28 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchil-dren.
A euchre party, organised ,by the men’s committee, took place at the NafTonal Club, last evening. The rooms, which were decorated with chrysanthemums, were comfortably warmed, and were filled to capacity witli card players. The men’s prize was won by Mr H. G. Mills and the ladies’ by Mrs Greener. The ladies’ committee assisted with the supper. Several pre-wedding parties have been tendered Miss Mancye Niccol, whose marriage takes place this week to Mr Colin Gilray, of Havelock North. Hostesses at these evenings were Mesdames Puklowski and Penman and Misses Bennett, Selwyn, Goodrich, and Copeland. The administrative staff of' the Palmerston North Hospital met at afternoon tea to tender their best wishes to Miss Niccol and make a presentation.
