WOMEN’S DIVISION.

SUPPORT FOR PATRIOTIC NEEDS. Mrs W. F. Field presided over a large attendance at the, Juno meeting of the Palmerston North branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union,. which was held yesterday at Messrs Collinson and Cunninghame’s. A grateful country woman wrote in appreciation of the action of the branch in sending a housekeeper to look after her home and for making it possible for her to have a rest at the division’s rest home, the first she had had in eight years. Mrs Field conveyed a vote of thanks to the elderly member who had donated the birthday cake, to Mrs D. Watson, who iced it, and to all who had helped to make the birthday party such a happy occasion. Mesdames George (Sanson), Dalzell (Whakarongo), W. Gimblett (Mangawhata) and Miss L. M. Banks were elected new members. Mesdames Cook, . Hodgson and Muir reported on their hospital visiting:. Mrs Adcock had assisted with the visiting, and the importance of this work was stressed. Mrs Cook offered to be a visitor for the coming week.

Mrs H. Millard presented a comprehensive report of the Wellington provincial annual meeting at Martou. She was thanked and congratulations were offered that she had undertaken the duties of secretary, Mrs Millard assuring the meeting she had only consented to do the work until Mrs Jennings was ready to take over. Mrs W. Montgomery was appointed the representative for the branch on the committee in charge of soldiers’ comforts parcels. Mrs Field intimated that a representative was also required on the patriotic shop committee. She spoke at length about the patriotic effort, urging the town members to do everything possible for the various committees and sub-committees for patriotic purposes, particularly mentioning the efforts now in operation to provide clothing for refugees. It was decided to devote one afternoon each month to sewing for the refugees. Mrs Hodgson’s offer of a room being accepted for the first afternoon. Mesdames Jennings and Adcock also offered their rooms.

Miss McKenzie, Mesdames Creighton and Clapham wrote'in appreciation of sympathy received. It was decided fo offer to take charge of the patriotic shop when required 'for two and a-half days. Prior to the general meeting a committee meeting was held. Mrs Field presiding. Votes of sympathy were accorded Miss McKenzie and the relatives of the late Miss Jefferson. Arrangements in connection with the stall to be held at the Winter Show were completed.
