SOLID DEFENCE
REPORT BY ALLIES. GREAT BELGIAN HELP, Received June 6 10.15 a.m. LONDON, June 5. The spokesman stated to-day that British troops are fighting with the French in the new Somme battle. Some armoured vehicles had appeared on both sides in Amiens, but at present there was nothing to suggest an armoured attack.
The Allies were holding on solidly. The Belgian General Legros has reported to his Defence Minister (Gen eral Denis) that 45,000 Belgian soldiers are with the Allies. NAZI ANNOUNCEMENT.
The German High Command stated that an enemy attack, backed by tanks and heavy artillery fire, was repelled near Abbeville. Another attack south from Longwy was also repelled •with heavy losses. German fighters and dive-bombers successfully attacked troop concentrations south from Abbeville, also. Le Havre. . Early in the morning a new German offensive was opened against the defensive line in France.
