Mr W. G. Simpson, liaison officer for.’the Department of Labour, is on an official visit to Palmerston North. Lieutenant Cyril W. Smith, of the Te;Awamutu District High School, has received notification of his appointment as an educational officer for the Royal New Zealand Air .Force. The Director-General of Agriculture (Mr AY H. Cockayne) is a visitor to Palmerston North and is attending the annual sheep-farmers’ conference, now being held at Massey College. A Tokio mes9ays says the death has occurred of Prince Lyesato Tokugawa, due to heart failure. His death is lamented as the passing of one of Japan’s greatest Anglophiles and advocates of Anglo-Saxon"’ culture and ideals. . Rev. A. C. McLean, M.A., of St. Paul’s Church, Wanganui, lias been elected, moderator ot the Wanganui Presbytery for the next 12 months. He was welcomed to the chair by the retiring moderator, Rev.. A. I». Dixon, of Feilding. Among those whom the King yesterday approved should be “sworn of His Majesty’s most honourable' Privy Council” are the Minister , for Shipping (Mr R..H. Cross), the Minister of Economic Warfare (Dr. H. Dalton), and Sir Charles Edwards and Sir Percy -Harris, Chief Whips of the Labour and Liberal Parties respectively. Other new Privy Councillors are Sir Walter Citrine (secretary of the Trades Union Congress), Sir Robert Vansittart (Permanent Foreign Un-der-Secretary), and Mr BrendanBracken (Parliamentary private secretary to Mr Churchill).—British Official Wireless. . Advice has been received in Auckland that Dr. K. E. Bullen, of Auckland University College, lias been appointed senior lecturer in mathematics in the University of Melbourne. Dr. Bullen graduated" in arts and, science at Auckland University College, and in 1928 lie was appointed full-time lecturer in mathematics at the college, a position which lie lias held Yip to the present, apart from two years’ leave spent in study at Cambridge Univer-sity-and in travel in Europe. At Cambridge he gained the degree of doctor of philosophy. Dr. Bullen’6 duties in Melbourne will include the delivery of special., lectures in hydrodynamics, which are required in connection with the recent establishment of the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation in Melbourne. ”■ / ,
