(From Our Own Correspondent.) ' SANSON, June 5. At the monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute the president (Mrs W. E. Pearce) asked the members to" stand in silence as a mark of sympathy with Airs H. Masters, whose brother has died, and Airs James Alasters in the loss of her father It was decided to donate £4 to tho Sick and Wounded ‘ Fund and the institute also decided to knit articles for the men of- the mercantile marine. Besides these things, the members are, as part of their programme, making handkerchiefs for the Ited Croes. The programme was arranged by the junior members, and comprisedtwo competitions, these being won by Airs Rowan and Airs Richardson; two comedy sketches by Alieses M. and J. Butler, and P. Aleyer and S. Grace. An elocutionary item was rendered by Miss D. Flyger. The competitions were won by the following: Bloom, Airs Drew and Airs Richardson, equal, 1, Airs Pearce 2, Airs Coulter 3; article made from sugar-bag, Airs Bishop 1, Airs Drew 2, Airs York 3. The competition for next month will be the beet knitted balaclava. A vote of thanks was passed to Airs Gray, who gave a donation towards the institute parcels for the soldiers. The Sandon and district patriotic sewing committee is being well supported. The committee is making clothes and comforts for the refugees. Left-off clothing suitable for making up, ip being dealt with, but the committee finds that it needs further donations. -
Airs Hynes, of Invercargill, is staying with lie;; sister, Airs G. Richardson.
