EXTRACTS FROM, “STANDARD.” JUNE 5, 1910. According •to a report from Wellington it was stated that the amount of foreign shipping handled for the month of May constituted a record. The nett tonnage was 311,355 tons.. Hon. C. S.' Rolls had flown the English Channel and back for an eighty guinea cup, his time being one hour 35 minutes. The Department of Labour was interesting itself in a scheme for .the emigration of young English lads to New Zealand. The report stated that the department wanted to emigrate lads between the ages of 15 and 19 and train-them in farming. Mr G. Craw, of Linton, had invented a new stripper for the flax industry which it was claimed had many improvements compared with the old one. The Palmerston North Rifle Club’s team was runner-up in the shoot for the Wanganui Battalion Shield.which was’won by the 'Wanganui Club.
