MOUNTED RIFLES.
CAMP AT LEVIN. Satisfaction with the recent camp of the Manawatu Mounted Hides at the Levn Racecourse was expressed to-day by Major G. S. Percn (officer commanding), who referred to the enthusiasm/ of the men 'and the excellent attendance. From the point of view of numbers it was one of the best camps for many years, an exceptionally high proportion ’of the total strength of the regiment being present. The time was chiefly spent in tactical exercises, including reconnaissance work and typical duties associated with such a regiment, and very valuable training was secured. Heavy rain at one stage made it advisable to take the men into Lbv.ih, where they were accommodated in halls, and in this regard great help was given'by the mechanised units in the camp: Major Pcren to-day expressed particular gratification at the fine response by the Mayor of Levin (Mr P. W. Goldsmith) and townspeople, who had been most generous; the Racing Club for placing their facilities at the men’s disposal, and various property owners for enabling the regiment.to make use of their lands. Throughout the ten-day camp, said Major Peren, the health of the men was exceptionally good, being on a par with normal civilian experience. The cam]) was inspected by Colonel Row (Officer I Commanding the Central Military District), Colonel Foster (General Staff Officer), and Colonel Maunsell (Briga T dier). The men responded well to the, training, and were looking forward to the commencement of the further period of camp life. C ;
