CASE OF AN ALIEN
ACTION IN NAPIER. HASTINGS, June 4. Following investigations which have extended over a considerable period, the Napier police on Saturday morning took into custody an alien employed as a male nurse at the Napier Hospital. He is being held in Napier pending instructions from the military authorities in "Wellington. Detective H. Nutall, of the Napier police, and- Major A. H. Wright, officer commanding the No. 7 (Napier) military area, apprehended the man. Ho cine at the University of Prague, Czechoslovakia. He is not registered as a medical practitioner in New Zealand. Before coming, to Napier he was employed as a farm hand in the Auckland province. At the Napier Hospital lie has been classified as a ■ male nurse attendant in the men’s chronic ward. - Under a recent amendment to the War Emergency Regulations the authorities are empowered to intern enemy aliens whether they are suspected of any breach of the law or not.
