GOLF TOURNEY

PATRIOTIC FUNDS BENEFIT. The Feilding Golf Club’s week-end tournament proved successful, and some 93 players took part in the various competitions. The tourney involved ten flights and ten groups. The. championship honours were fought out between L. M. Giesen and E. \V. Gover, the former going on to win the final, which jvas decided on the 21st green in rain and failing light. Giesen was 2 down at the lltli, but successes in the following play gave him a lead of 1 up at the 15th. The pair were all square at the 16th. Giesen decided the issue at the 21st. The final of the first group of players eliminated from the championship flight was fohght out by .1. Ricliardson, of Pahiatua, and C. B. Thomas, of Feildirig, the former winning on the 20th green after an excellent exhibition of long play. With a net score of 42 E. M. Hare won the Stableford bogey, with J. Stewart runner-up with a net 40. Hare’s gross score was 72.^ During the play on Saturday Iv. Field, of the Rangitikei Club, lost a £5 note, and on its recovery he donated a turkey which was auctioned for patriotic funds, the bird being knocked down to Mrs C. G. C. Dermer, who in turn donated it to the Patriotic Society for disposal this week. The patriotic funds will also benefit as a result of a putting competition organised by Mrs W. H. Smith and the decision of the. Feilding Golf Club to donate some of the proceeds of the tournament to the funds. Mrs L. M. Giesen. wife of the club •president, thanked the visiting clubs for their support and offered her congratulations to those who had contributed to the success of the' tournament. Mrs Giesen also presented the prizes. Mr A. TC. Drew replied on behalf of the visitors, stating that they were appreciative of the hospitality accorded and the tourney had been thoroughly enjoyed. the following is a list of the prize-win-ners; —Championship flights; No. 1, R.
