GREEK COMMUNITY’S THANKS
Mr S. N. Garland, vice-consul for Greece in New Zealand, accompanied by Messrs A. Janis and C. Christie, representing the Greek community of Wellington, visited Palmerston North yesterday to make contact with all the Greek proprietors of restaurants in the city, and it was unanimously decided that the takings from their shops on June 28 should be handed over to *the Palmerston North headquarters of the Sick and Wounded Fund. The Deputy-Mayor (Mr G. Tremaine) . who accompanied the 'delegation expressed his Measure at the generous and spontaneous manner in which the proposal was met by the members of the Greek community, who were anxious to show their appreciation of the rights and liberties accorded them under the British flag and also their sympathy with the Allied cause. Similar action is to be taken by the Greek community in Wellington and the delegation is proceeding to other centres to ensure that the same gesture will l>e made throughout New Zealand on the same day.
