COLLEGE STREET SCHOOL.
At a meeting- of the College. Street School Committee, last evening, Mr H. G. Mills presided. Others present were Messrs E. 0. Cruickshank, E. Persson, C. Aitke.n, F. G. Opie, J. Creighton, L. I. Plimmer and 11. A. Brace (secretary). A welcome to the meeting was extended to the new headmaster (Mr A. H. McLean) by Air Mills on behalf of the'committee. In reply to a request from the Legion of Frontiersmen for the use of the school grounds and lighting facilities one night-a week, the meeting decided to grant the use of. the quadrangle but not the lighting facilities. The headmaster reported that Mr; A. E. R. Joblin resigned at the end* of last term, and Mr F. R. Short was relieving in his place. Mr G. S. Botting had commenced duty as an assistant'and Airs F. Allen had been reappointed a supernumerary teacher. The first term ended with a roll of 518. the average roll-being 521. During the period 87 children were admitted and 60 withdrawn. The present roll was 520. On May 20 the school was visited by Messrs B. N. T. Blake, senior inspector, and Mr G. N. Boulton, secretary of the Wanganui Education Board, who inspected the school in regard to accommodation facilities. Mr E. Crosby, inspector of schools, also visited the In connection with the introduction of a new syllabus for physical education, the school was visited by Mr Smithells, supervisor of Physical Education.
