SICK AND WOUNDED FUND. Per Press Association. QHRISTCHURCH, June 3. New Zealand is contributing to the Sick, Wounded and Distress Fund ,at the rate of £IO,OOO a day. The appeal for £250,000 was launched on May 12. and up to last Friday £160.000 had been received. These facts were revealed to-day by Major Abel (Dominion treasurer of the appeal). He said the figures already in hand did not include the proceeds from the barrow day in Christchurch. These would run to approximately £IO,OOO. This effort was outstanding. The national total reached £167,840 this afternoon, when it was expected that miscellaneous payments wmdd bring the grand total to more than £l7l,ooo.District totals are: Wellington, £44.380; Canterburv, £32.200; Auckland, £2B 500; Dunedin. £22.000; Naoier, £15,900; Palmerston North, £10.160; Taranaki, £9500: Gisborne. £2000; Marlborough, £1700; West Coast. £ISOO. ~ Major Abel said he had been advised that £2OOO had arrived in Wellington to-dav from Southland, and the result of the Nelson appeal was unknown. In addition, some of the figures in the other district totals were now three da vs old, and might'be altered by sums which had since been remitted.
