RIFLE SHOOTING

MANAWATU CHAMPIONSHIP. (From Our Own Correspondent.) ASHHURST, June 3. The championship shoot of the Manawatu Rifle Association was held on Saturday on the Ashhurst range under adverse conditions. Conditions were somewhat bettor for the final 300yds shoot, though the changing. wind and light upset many promising' totals. The winner of the championship cup and aggregate was J. G. Horn (Levin), 11. A. Lumsden (Hautero) being second. The outstanding performance was that of D. H. Wilkie," a lad 'of 13 years, who recorded the fino total of 99 to wi-i the B grade aggregate. The C grade was won by I. McLean, of Cheltenham. Tho champion teams’ match provided a fine duel between the Ashhurst and Levin clubs, the latter winning out by one point over tho final range at 300yds.. The Levin team now holds the Greer Shield. _The association’s patron (Mr W. R. ICclls) visited the range. At the conclusion of tho meeting, the president (Mr W. G. Romlcy) presented the trophies and thanked the 50 competitors for braving tho elements and helping to make the day such a success. The president also expressed pleasure in that the Levin - Club had achieved their objective in _ winning the Greer Shield and championship. He congratulated the range officers (Messrs Ilausmann and Tantrum), the markers under Can tain L. 11. Jones, and .the secretarial staff (Mrs R. A. Jones, Messrs R. A. Jones and L. Wotton).
