MARTON. June 3. Rugby football matches on Saturday resulted:—Senior- Old Boys 13 v. Iluntorville 5; Bulls sv. Rata 3. Junior: Old Boys 6 v. Hunterviilo 3. Thirds: Marton School 9 v. Old Boys 5. Old Boys and Hunteryille seniors provided the most exciting game seen on Marton Park this season. From kick-off to final whistle there was 'not a dull moment, for the reason that both sides threw the ball about. Old Boys won by, 13 points to 5 and thus avenged their second-round defeat. In the first half, Old Boys, getting possession of tho scrums, repeatedly sot their backs in motion in splendid movements, and when the rearguaids were not in action, tho two sets of forwards battled grimly. Numerous players, earned distinction but R. Walker, A. Leo, D, Asbfprd (the Maori All Black), and I. Rowe (Hunterviilo), S. Ireland (before half-time), D, Comrie, L. Mackisack, 11. Gordon (Old Boys), played well in the forwards. The leading teams in tho women’s hockey competition both had oasy wins on Saturday, the results being:—United A 4 v. United B 1; Kia Ora 5 v. Iluntervillc 0. Tho only men’s game played was between Kia Ora and Wanderers at Onopubi, the match ending in a draw, 2;nll. The following are the results of "the basketball matches played on Saturday: Rongotea 16 v. Marton A 13; Athletic 9 v. Broadway 9; Marton 822 v. Bulls B 3. The Iota! amount donated to the Sick, Wounded and j Distressed Fund Appeal in Marton now stands at £llß6 15s Id. The bogey competition played by members of tiie Marton Ladies’ Golf Club resulted: Mrs Sladdon, Miss Sutcliffe, 7 dpwn. At tho I-Jnwkostono Golf Club competitions resulted; —Stroke: Mrs Williams, 111—28—83; Miss T. McDonald, 110—26 84. Putting; Mrs MeChesney and Mrs Williams, equal. On Saturday, seven members of the Alarton Harrier Club visited Wanganui where they competed in an inter-chib relay race which was won by Wanganui by a margin of 30 points.
