PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE

WOMEN’S ORGANISATION. Tlie Feilding Women’s Patriotic Committee met on Friday afternoon, Mrs A. C. McCorkindale presiding. Also present were: Mesdames R. Seddon, AV. G.'Short, E. Scott, M. Durie, R. H. Buchanan, H. Beatson, A. K. Drew, T. Donaldson. An apology for absence was received from Mrs AV. Green.

Mrs McCorkindale presented a summary of activities from March 8 to the end of May, and reported that tlie country districts were linking with the town committee, sharing the work and contributing parcels. Attendances’ at the meetings at the Community Centre were increasing and requests for wool for knitting were multiplying daily. Mrs Short intimated that the Oroua Federation of AA'omen’s Institutes was receiving a supply of Air Force blue wool each month from headquarters in AVellington and she offered the wool for- distribution through the Feilding committee. Suggestions for raising funds included a patriotic ball, a Paddy’s market and a weekly shop day. Mrs Beatson proposed that when the national Red Cross Appeal closed a' patriotic shop be .opened in Feilding to be conducted by the women’s organisations and groups in turn, the takings to be pooled and employed for meeting requests for parcels and hospital supplies. Members generally approved of the suggestion and it was agreed to recommend it to the general committee.

Knitted articles and gifts were received from Mrs M. Burrell, Mrs Holmes (Kimbolton), Miss Crabb, Mrs Hooper, Mrs Fitzpatrick, Mrs Boshier (Rangiwahia), Mrs G. Johnson (Stanway), Mrs AValpole, the Sansbn Guild, Awahuri ladies, Rangitikei and Feilding clubs. The articles received included 197 balaclavas, 19 scarves, 31 pairs of gloves, 2 pairs mittens, 2 parcels of books, 3 boxes of playing 'cards, 1 pullover, 3 parcels of old linen, 36 paybook covers, 10 pairs of socks, 2 boxes of clothing ioi refugee children, 46 hussifs (complete), 22 hospital bags, 31 food covers. 4 hot-water bottle covers. A total of 130 parcels had been made up. Donations to the comforts fund had been received as follow: — Players, £5 6s; Rangitikei Club, £1 Is; Mrs Vennell, £1; catering, £1 7s 6d; Red Cross National Appeal from Mrs H. M. Hare, £5.
