RUGBY FOOTBALL
MANAWATU CLUB MATCHES. ■HARD PLAY SEEN. Spectators at inter-club matches conducted by the Manawatu Rugby Union on Saturday, which was recognised as '‘patriotic day,” the jirofits being devoted to patriotic purposes, saw hardfought contests in all the senior games. At Palmerston North rain fell lor a considerable period during the first match and reduced play front that point onward more or less to forward tussles. In the senior grade United and Eeilding retained their co-leadership. St. Patrick’s held their position of being two points behind, and the other teams have now been relegated to placings which put them almost certainly beyond the possibility of winning the first round. Old Boys and United are level in the junior grade, but Old Boys have yet to obtain a bye. Air Force are one point behind them.
