♦ THURSDAY NIGHT’S BOUT. Two men whose names rank'Tu'gh on the list of heavyweight professional . wrestlers, • and who have already proved their worththis season in this country are to meet in the Palmerston North Opera House„on Thursday. They are, John Katan, of Alberta, who, teibpcred by a gruellingmatch against McCready for (ho British Empire championship (in which he drew with the champion) is looking for fresh victims; and Dan O’Conqor, a rugged, Irish-Amorican who. by reason 'of a particularly dangerous flying tackle and a smashing forearm jolt, is well able.to take, care of himself, come what may. An outstanding selection of amateurs are to appear prior to the professional bouts, and these alone - will undoubtedly warrant the price of-admission. Ron Newth of Wellington, is to ’meet Bill Cudby (Palmerston North) in a special challenge match. Cudby beat Newth in the provincial championships and Newth has been awaiting his chance to secure a return bout for an opportunity to reverse the decision. He is willing .to meet Cudby on any terms, and as Cudby is equally as willing, patrons can look forward to a bout that will be fast.and furious from gong to gong. Another formidable amateur.- is “Buster” Murrell, runner-up in last year’s . middleweight championships, who meets J. Thompson. R.N.Z.A.F., Ohakca. Thompson recently lost a very , close decision to Cudby on points after one of the most .thrilling amateur bouts - seen in this city for many a year. Promise of _ yet another battle royal -presents itself m the - bout between Bill Weston, now of Ohakune but well known to local enthusiasts as the former Manawatu bantamweight champion,. and Joe Eekerslv, the present featherweight champion, who was runner-up in the Dominion championships last year. Weston’s many admirers in this city "will watch with interest his meeting with a wrestler against whom ho will have to pit all the cunning and muse c at his command, while the local boy s followers, too, are anticipating a "have Eckersly on his foes all the way. In addition to these bouts, a professional lightweight preliminary will bo a thrilling feature of the preliminary programme. Prices are advertised.
