PAHIATUA
Mr C. Walker, an old resident of the Mangatainoka district, was farewelled on Friday evening in the .Mangatainoka Hall prior to his leaving lor Hauincana, Hawke’s Bay, where he is going to live in retirement. On behalf of the residents, Mr N. Power presented the guest of honour with a fishing rod arid a cheque, and expressed the wish that he would live many years to enjoy his retirement,. Messrs K. L. Harvey, H. ■ Goodwin and B. Harvey added their felicitations. The evening was spent in dancing to the music of Messrs K. Hicks and K. Fletcher, with Mr N. Power officiating as M.C. Items wore given by Mise Barbara Burgess and Joan Brabner. A collection taken up in aid of the Red Cross Appeal realised £3 15s. RED CROSS APPEAL. Pahiafua contributions to the Sick, Wounded and Distressed Fund Appeal now total £2404 12s. RUGBY FOOTBALL. In a liard-fought game played at Rugby Park, Pahiatua, on Saturday, Mangatainoka thirds beat Pahiatua thirds by 6 points to 3. V.' Brown and C. Howatt scored an unconverted try each for Manga,ainoka, and D. Bentley scored a similar try lor Pahiatua. The referee was Mr Skilton.
