OROUA DOWNS.
' (From Our Own Correspondent.) OROUA DOWNS, May 31. At the monthly meeting of the Oroua Downs Women's Institute, Mrs Marchnnt presided. It was decided to affiliate with the Red Cross. Tt was also decided to bring books, to be sent to soldiers’ camps, to the next meeting. Mrs Smith offer- 1 ing to take charge of these. Mrs Marsdon presented a comprehensive report of the Federation meeting and was accorded thanks. Presentations were made to Mrs Smith (retiring president) and Miss Jar vis (on the occasion of her approaching marriage). For the “golden thread”- Mrs Dench read a pioneer tale of the ,Mana watu district. The members spent an hour tearing and rolling bandages to be sent to the Red Cross, and practising bandaging. Mrs Marsdon and Mrs Boyden were thanked for making the bags to hold the bandages. Each member was asked to make and bring a soldiers’ ditty bag, 15 to 10in., to the June meeting. Winners of the competitions were: —Miss L. Christensen 1, Mrs Gales 2, Mrs Fun nell 3; pot of jelly, Mrs Williams and Miss A. Christensen, equal, 1. Mrs Boyden 3. Mrs Procter 4; bowl of berries, Miss Francis 1, Mrs Funncll 2.
