(From Our Own Correspondent.). HALCOA]BE, May 31. The draw for next week’s ladies’ golf competition is: Aliss J. Fergusson and Aliss O. Fergusson, Airs F. Cowdrey and Airs D. Alanagh, Airs N. Ashworth and Airs G Nicol, Aire 11. Williams and Aliss B. Fergusson, Airs L. Davies and Airs J. Fergusson, Airs E. Cowdrey and Airs L. Miller, Airs R. Alanagh and Airs J. O’Sullivan, Aliss P. Fergusson and Airs L. Fergusson, A'lrs. Nairn and partner. Airs G. Nicol was the winner of this week’s competition. The challenge button was retained by Airs J. O’Sullivan, who boat Aliss O. Fergusson. Several members of the men’s golf club will participate in the Feilding tournament. There was a large attendance at the Halcombo District Patriotic Purposes Committee meeting. Air E. W. Cowdrey .presided. A Red Cross appeal is to bo made and the following canvasses were appointed : Eastern, Messrs Harvey, Hamilton, Green and Alillb; central, Alessrs P. Rasmussen, G. Burgess, W. Alilcs, J. Fergusson, A. Prior, R. Dudding and Rev. To Punga; western, E. Pryce, R. Alanagh, R. Rentoul, R. Fergusson, N. Ashworth, L. Hogg and I. AlcLennan. The sum of £326 Is was raised in the last district appeal. Prior to their departure members of the Third Echelon will be given a public farewell. A women’s meeting will bo held with a view to furthering war work. Particulars will bo advertised later.

At the monthly meeting of the Halcombe Young Farmers’ Club an impromptu debate with members of the junior branch of the W.D.F.U., was held. The subject, “That the farm is the ileal place to rear a family” was wqll handled and the judges, Messrs W. Page and W. R. Powell, declared for the yohng farmers. A seven-a-side Rugby football team is to be selected to defend the cup at the Winter Show. It was decided to support the idea that the movement should be incorporated with the junior branch of the W.D.F.U. Air W. S. Page has obtained permission from the

Oroua County Council to plant trees on the Stanway hill under the young farmers scheme. “ . . , Aliss Y. Bhindch, who is shortly to be married, was the guest of honour- at a gift evening held in the Jubilee Flail. Air W. AlcLennan paid a tribute to the manner in which Aliss Bluriden has responded to the many calls made on her by the various district organisations. Blunden received numerous presents. Air J. Blunden, on behalf of the recipient, returned _ thanks. The music for dancing was supplied by Alessrs J. Ashton, J. L. Goilc, and A. F. Swenson. The winners' of the euchre wore Airs E.
