BEAUPARTIR TO GO SHORTLY. (By “Spectator.”) Beaupartir has recently been given pace work at Awapuni. His trainer, Mrs A. W. McDonald, says that is intended to send him to Australia early next' month. Screen Star Improving. Screen Star showed condition when he raced at Awapuni. His fourth at Foxton showed that racing is improving him and ho . may shortly return to his best form. Winter Weights. The winter scale of weights is now in operation. Until the end of August the minimum weight in all races, other than the principal flat race on each day of a meeting, must not bo less than 8.0. Southland Sire. The Southland sire Salagamundi recently had a winner at Rcsehill in Sally Rich, a two-year-old filly who started favourite and beat 17 others over six furlongs. Last Chance, a winner by the same sire, won at a Richmond meeting. Padishah in Form. Hawke’s Bay reports indicate that Padishah is right in form. Recently he gave a. very fine display over 10 obstacles at racing pace. While his handicaps in the Victorian Nationals are not prohibitive the trip is not yet definitely to be undertaken, and there is a possibility that he may contest the Wanganui Steeplechase on Monday. Leading Sire. Beau Bere is. the leading sire for Australia and New Zealand for the period from August 1 to April 30,- with 25 winners of 60 races for £27,698. He has been in Australia for three years but all the winners by him were sired when ho was at the Wcstmere Stud in New Zealand. His best winners have been Bcaulivre, Beau Vite, Beaupartir, Sir Beau, Amigo and Hilton. Hawke’s Bay Entries. Nominations for the,Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s winter meeting include tile following Awapuni horses:—First day: Hawke’s Bay Steeples, Riotous, Bridegroom : Ileretaunga Handicap, Du Maurier. Second day: Hawke’s Bay Hurdles Handicap, Du Maurier; June Steeplechase Handicap, Riotous, Bridegroom; Corinthian Plate, Tolaga, Foxiana. Restriction on Free Tickets. The following remit- is to be considered at the New Zealand Racing Conference in July: “That for the duration of tho war, and with a view to assisting the amusement tax, it be a recommendation to each club using a totalisator to suspend the free and partially free ticket list, other than to members, special visitors, officials of district clubs, owners...trainers, jockeys and others engaged in conducting the meeting.” * Nigger Minstrel Dead. The stallion Nigger Minstrel, who was foaled in 1921, recently died in Invercargill. Hie breakdown cut short a brilliant racing career. At two years’ he won the Wellington Racing Club’s Fitzherbert Handicap and the Great Northern Champagne Stakes. He was second in the Avondale AllAged Stakes.' In Australia he won' the Rosehill Guineas and was beaten by a head by Heroic in the A.J.C. Derby of 1924, with Spearfclt another head away third. At tho stud he has left some good performers.
