WAR POLICY
RAILWAYMEN’S VIEWS. Per Press Association. . / AVELLINGTON, May 31. A mass meeting of the Hutt railway workshops men passed a resolution calling on the Government to take strong measures against “the campaign being waged by the Press and what Mr Eraser has called political oddments. We consider Chambers ■ of Commerce and' Farmers’ Unions are seriously disrupting the Government’s war effort and using this as an excuse to attack the working conditions which have been built up over a long period of years.” The meeting also passed a motion: “That," in view of the present policy of retrenchment in the workshops, > the meeting protest against the" Government’s action in postponing the statu-
tory holiday on Monday, viewing with concern the methods adopted and considering the men should have been given an opportunity through their organisations to discuss the question before any decree was made. The better way would have been to request the men to work on Monday on behalf of the retrenched members, thereby allowing the men notice to be retained during this period of the crisis.”
A Press Association message from Hastings reports that Napier railway workshops employees passed a resolution opposing a Coalition Government and expressing confidence in the Premier. Deputy-Premier, and all the members of the Government to conduct, the affairs of New Zealand during the war period. ,
