Having cycled from Gisborne in five days, and having inquired at numerous farms on the route for work, a visitor yesterday informed a “Manawatu Standard” reporter' that lie had had only one offer and that of cutting scrub at £1 a week. He said he was competent in agricultural team work, fencing, milking and , other general farm work, but farmers had. advised him, that it was the wrong time of the year for them to be engaging lahour. Reference was made to the State Placement Service office in the city, and it was there explained that the man could not be placed in a position when he called late in the afternoon, but had he remained over the ■ weekend there was no doubt that he could have been suited with subsidised land development wprk. As it was, lie had proceeded .to Wanganui, where there was a much greater possibility of his securing work'of the type to which lie was. suited.
