GOOD SHOOTING SEASON.
The shooting season this year has been remarkably successful, ducks being unusually plentiful, according to opinions expressed at the Wellington Acclimatisation Society council meeting this week. The chairman (Dr. G. F. V. Allson) said that in the Manawatu, Wairarapa, end Hawke’s Bay duck seemed plentiful Hawke’s Bay had the best shooting in many years. He was of opinion there had been no decrease in the duck population recently. Mr D. J. Gibbs, chairman of the finance committee, said tho general impression was there were more ducks about than last year; certainly their numbers had not decreased. Mr T. Andrews, the society’s ranger in the Manawatu, reported shooting there to have been very 'satisfactory, comparing favourably with former seasons. There were more swans than usual, and several limit hags were obtained. Many limits of ducks were shot, including numbers of mallard. He knew of at least three sportsmen who obtained limit bags of ducks and a brace of pheasants. Shooting in the Rangitikei was patchy, but there, too, limit bags were taken on softie lakes.
