(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, May 13. Stoker W. Hardy, of IT M.S. Achilles, is spending his ‘leave with Mr and Mrs F. Procter, of Purcell Street. Mr and Mrs T. V. Crotty have returned from a holiday spent in the Waikato and s Bay of Plenty districts. The friends of Mr J, Grant will regret to learn that he is confined to his bed. Among the latest enlistments for service overseas are Mr Henry Robinson, son of Mr and Mrs F. Robinson, of Cook Street, and Mr T, Tulloch. of Foxton, and Mr C. Thomjison, of Himatangi. Mrs J. K. Hornblow, who has been visiting Dannevirlce and the Wairarapa, returned homo on Saturday! Mr and Mrs T. Chippei, ot Dannevirks, are the guests of Mrs Hornblow. A branch of the. Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes has been formed in Foxton with Mr C. R. Tutty as secretary.
There was a harvest for beach residents on Saturday, when the tide left the. river-front strewn with wood brought down by the flood. Following her return to Foxton Beach after five days’ buffeting at sea, the fishing launch Madge was pluced on the slip for repairs. A long, heavy rope was used to haul the vessel lip the slipway and was left over the week-end tied (o a post ashore. Some person, • however, hacked the rope through and made off with about fifty fathoms of it. Playing basketball on Saturday the Foxton A team was beaten by Taikorea A team by 24 points to 5: the B lean visited Rangiotu and was beaten by the Rangiotu B team by 11 points to 9. The road cycle races to Heathcrlea Corner and back, hold on Saturday, resulted : D. Kbbolt 1. R. Dorroen 2. There were four starters.
