DANNEVIRKE BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Danncvirke Hospital Board was held on Wednesday, there being present Messrs L. Stein (chairman), W. Galloway, It. E. Bunny, J. Miller, H. A. Hansen, A. England, Cl. A. Sutton and It. H. Morgan. Mr P. C. Smi-th was granted leave of absence. . The following notice of motion tabled by Mr England at the last meeting came up for consideration: “That the motion passed at a special meeting of the board held on Tuesday, February 20,, 1940, relating to rescinding a motion regarding the secretary, be rescinded.” The motion was seconded by Mr Miller. The chairman said that before inviting discussion he would like to ascertain from the mover and seconder whether they would agree to hold over consideration of the motion with a view to the board appointing a special committee to go into the whole position and bring down a report. He pointed out that if the motion were carried before bylaws were framed the subject could be brought up at every meeting and there would thus be “a lot of talk for nothing.” The best method of dealing with the position was to hold over the motion -until the committee brought down a report. The mover and seconder and Messrs Hansen, Galloway, Bunny and Crosse expressed complete agreement with the chairman’s suggestion and the meeting agreed to consideration of the motion being postponed. On the motion of the chairman and Mr Morgan, the following sub-committee was appointed to act along the lines indicated by the chairman: Messrs England, Miller, Hanson, Galloway and Sutton. The secretary of the AVoodville subbranch of the Plunkct Society wrote thanking the board for its donation of £5 ss.
The matron (Miss E. A. Orsman) reported that the hospital had been very busy during the month. The isolation ward had been open for the last five weeks. The number of patients at present in the hospital was 77. Various gifts were acknowledged. The medical superintendent (Dr W. Beedie) stated in his report that during April 79 patients were admitted and 76 discharged. On May 1 there were in hospital 27 men, 25 women and 19 children, including three children in the isolation ward suffering from scarlet fever. Mr Morgan congratulated the farm committee on the excellent work being done, which was a credit to them and the hospital. Acknowledging the compliment, Mr Hansen said the committee was only endeavouring to carry out the policy of the board in this connection.
