SMASHING ATTACK.
DESTRUCTION BY R.A.F. , (British Official Wireless.) '. RUGBY, May 14. Describing tlie incidents when the B.E.F. opened its first battle with the , German Army on -Tuesday, an agency | correspondent says this was done from ( the sky, from which the R.A.F. car- ; rieel out a smashing attack on the Nazis. The British squadron rained ; bombs on railways, roads and bridges , and, despite intense fire from the , ground and opposition from fighters, . the British bombers pressed home their attacks and registered hits on vital spots. Nine enemy aircraft which were shot down added to the enemy's confusion when they burst , into flames. One British aircraft took on the "impossible odds of nine Messerschmitts," but came hack to tell the ■ story. All the pilot had to tell was that only seven Nazi lighters re-form-
ed after the fight.
