The New York Times’s Hong Kong correspondent reports that British women and children have been reminded that they must be registered for evacuation in case of emergency. The wording of the notice suggests routine but there is speculation whether it is inspired by ah extension of the war threat to the Far East, especially after persistent Chinese reports that a large Japanese fleet has assembled in the vicinity of Hainan.
