(From Our Own Correspondent.) BULLS, May 15. Mrs Jackson presided at a mooting of tile Bulls Women’s Institute. Two new members. M-esdames Jones and Carter, were welcomed. Mrs W. Ellery gave an interesting report of the Orcua Council meeting, held at Feilding. Wool was distributed for knitting scarves for soldiers, and it is hoped to obtain further supplies of wool at an early date. It was decided to hold a shop. Mrs Kyles was heard in a vocal solo, and a piano duet was played by Miss B. and Mrs Carson. A word competition was won by Miss Carson and Miss L. Cornfoot. Other competitions resulted: —Soldiers’ hussifs. Mrs Jurgens 1, Mrs Withorington 2, Mrs W. Ellery 3; specimen bloom, Mrs Cornfoot 1, Mrs W. Ellery 2, Mrs G. Ellery 3; antirrhinums, Mrs S. Nicol, 11. J. Hendry v. A. W. Tippett. A meeting of tho Young Farmers Club was held thin week, Mr S. G. -Avery presiding. Mr A. R. Dingwall forwarded corrospondenco regarding the district committee debating contest. A member of the Halcombc club was present and issued a challenge on behalf of his club. An offer to debate was also received from the Rongotea club. Two teams were elected. The teams and subjects are: A team, v. Rongotea, ‘.‘Farming conditions and opportunities of to-day versus those of 50 years ago”; B team, v. Ilalcombe, “That dairy fanning requires better managerial ability than sheep farming.” It was decided to hold the annual ball in June, Ibis to be advertised. The Rongotea Y.F.C. is to supply the extras. It was unanimously decided to donate 50 per cent of the profits to the Patriotic Fund. After the conclusion of business the young farmers were joined by members of the Herd Testing Association and other farmers. and a most interesting and instructive address was delivered by Mr E. P. Nielson, a consulting officer of tho Dairy Board. Ills subject was general, and covered management and feeding, herd testing statistics with , special reference to herd sire survey work, and tho scientific side of breeding, which he demonstrated with live poultry. Mr T. W. Pago, of the Herd Testing Council, and several Marion farmers were present. Members of the first aid class visited Marton during the week for a test, under the auspices of the St. John Ambulance and Nursing Division, and a very interesting and instructive evening was spent in attending to various “patents.” On Tuesday evening a birthday gathering was held at the residence of Mr J. C. Button, it being that gentleman’s 74th birthday. Songs and cards filled in the evening, and Mr Button received the good wishes of a large number of friends. Mrs M.
